This is a set design concept created for a play, The Chairs written by Eugene Ionesco. The design explores a broken relationship between parent and child due to lack of communication. The parents lived in an isolated house above water, which is why the design is set in a house that is built on stilts. This historical structure of a house can be found in the clan jetties of Penang, Malaysia. A very big part of the design concept is to incorporate ideas of realism and surrealism. Hence, a realistic looking house that tears apart towards the end of the show.
